Belated 90th Happy Birthday Hal Holbrook!!!

I normally don't write posts about personal events, etc.  I am making an exception in this case because what we did was extraordinary and exceptional.

A couple of weeks ago, some friends, my wife and I went to see Hal Holbrook d0 "Mark Twain Tonight" on his 90th Birthday at the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford.  Hal Holbrook has been performing this show for over 60 years including on PBS.

Despite his age, his performance of Mark Twain and Twain's words was flawless and wonderful.  Many quips and sarcastic observations of religion, politics and Congress.  Some things don't change, eh?

After the show, the show's organizers read a Happy Birthday letter from the Obamas and the Connecticut's Governor and Hartford's Mayor joined them on stage, as politicians humbled with their tails between their legs, to note Twain's connection with Connecticut and Hartford (he lived and wrote in Hartford many years) and proclaim it Hal Holbrook day in Connecticut and Hartford.

Happy birthday Hal Holbrook.  Your performance of Mark Twain Tonight does a wonderful National service and reminds us of our unchanging humanity.  Despite the permanence of your words, we could use your observations in these troubled times.
