The Vancouver Sun website inspired me to think of my favorite CDs made between 2000 - 2009. You will find my list to be far more pedestrian than that of the Vancouver Sun. That said, here are my choices in random order:
- Bob Dylan Bootleg Series No. 5 - Bob Dylan Live - 1975 Rolling Thunder Review (2002)
- Lucinda Williams - World Without Tears (2003)
- Jake La Botz - Used to Be (2001)
- A.J. Croce - Adrian James Croce (2004)
- Tom Waits - Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards (2006)
- Tony Bennett & k.d. lang - A Wonderful World (2002)
- Ry Cooder - My Name is Buddy (2007)
- Melissa Etheridge - The Awakening (2007)
- Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar - One Fast Move or I'm Gone (2009)
- Jamey Johnson - That Lonesome Song (2007)
I think the Vancouver Sun article is worth checking out so I encourage you to do it. It made me realize that I have to get with it and start spending more time listening to Jack White and White Stripes. If anyone out there has any suggestions on where I should start, let me know.
I'd also be interested in seeing your "Best of the Decade" list. What are they?!? Click on "Comments" below and post them.
Tambourine - Tift Merritt (2004)
ReplyDeleteHot Fuss - The Killers (2004)
Emotionalism - The Avett Brothers (2007)
A Bigger Bang - The Rolling Stones (2005)
Here Come the Derailers - The Derailers (2001)
Little Honey - Lucinda Williams (2008)
Blame the Vain - Dwight Yoakum (2005)
Get Born - Jet (2003)
All The You Can't Leave Behind - U2 (2000)
Loud and Clear - Reddy Teddy (2008)
Interesting. This made me realize that I really don't buy that much music--I typically will only go out and buy stuff when I'm directing a new show or something, and want to explore different approaches to the play. Doing so has opened me up to some cool stuff, though, over the last decade:
ReplyDeleteAmy Winehouse
Devil Doll
The Misfits (yeah I know they've been around, but I'm just now discovering them)
Pepe & The Bottle Blondes
Pink Martini
Paris Combo
Pearl Django (a Django Reinhardt-esque group)
Queens of the Stoneage
The Amy Winehouse album is probably worth of a 'best of decade' tag.
Bettye Lavette---The Scene of the Crime 2007
ReplyDeleteMavis Staples---We'll Never Turn Back
Los Lonely Boys---2003
The Subdudes---Behind the Levee 2006
Warren Zevon---The Wind 2003
John Hiatt---Same Old Man 2008
Shelby Lynn---I Am Shelby Lynn 2000
Anders Osborne & Big Chief Monk Boudreaux-Bury the Hatchet 2002
Gipsey Kings---Somos Gitanos
Dr. John---Duke Elegant 2000
John Hamond---Wicked Grin 2000
